balloon

Artist Statement:
In this piece, I created hot air balloons. I used graphite pencils for the rough sketch, then water colored them and outlined them with an ink pen. In this piece I used the elements of line & color. I used like with all the dark outlines and it is clear how I used color. I believe that in this piece I can improve on making the balloons look more realistic. I enjoyed creating this work of art.

octopus lady progression

Artist Statement:
This is a quick little drawing I created in my sketchbook. I used a pen to draw out the original sketch then went over the drawing with water color paints. I used pictures of octopus tentacles as a reference (which I have under my reference tab.) The elements I used include line, value, and color. I used like when making the original sketch, I have lots of dark values in the red of the tentacles and light values in the blue of the water. And lastly I used color throughout the whole piece. I could improve this painting by next time creating it on a bigger scale, outside of my sketchbook.

Eye Study

Artist Statement:
This is a study I did of the human eye from different angles. I created this piece using a black ball point pen. In this piece I have the elements of line and value. I used lines to create the shading in the eyes and I have dark values to create contrast. Next time maybe I'll study a different part of the human body.

Artist Statement:
I created this piece with the intention to sell it at our art programs gallery night. I made it on a form board using a think black sharpie marker/pen. This piece using line and color for the elements. I used lines in the whole piece when drawing the mermaid. Her hair, body and tail are made up of all lines and the background is where the element of color comes into play. Next time I create a piece like this, maybe I'll make it bigger and make a cooler background.

Artist Statement:
This is a piece I made for a competition. I created it using all black sharpie marker and watercolor paint. In this art work I used the elements of value, color, and space. I used values of the dark sharpie and lightness of the watercolor to create the dark and light points of the work. I also used space by filling the entire page. Next time, I can possibly improve on the background, I was a bit rushed to finish and it is shown in my sloppy brushwork in the background.
